Roadtrip
Step into the dawn of the Artificial Intelligence era, where innovation and transformation move hand in hand at remarkable speed. Every organization, large or small, will feel the impact of AI. It is reaching into every corner of the business world, from automated customer service to data-driven decision-making, opening the door to a future full of possibilities. But with that power comes responsibility. Questions around ethics, transparency and security will require every organization to adapt and rethink its approach.
In this fascinating yet complex new world, no one will remain untouched. Attending the London AI Summit 2023 on June 14 and 15 was a privilege. The event brought together exceptional ideas, industry leaders and groundbreaking technologies, offering a deeper look into the world of Artificial Intelligence. Together with Niek de Visscher, Data Scientist and Engineer, we were given a glimpse into the future of AI and the impact it will have on the worlds of BI, Data and Cloud. So get ready and embrace the transformative power of AI.
The AI Summit opened with a series of engaging talks on the AI landscape and future trends. The insights shared about the transformative role of AI in sectors such as healthcare, finance, transport and retail were truly inspiring.
One of the sessions focused on OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, and its vision for the future of data. It explored how OFCOM uses AI and how it regulates that use effectively, a crucial issue in this rapidly growing AI landscape. Another fascinating topic was the impact of the Metaverse on businesses, highlighting its potential to reshape the way we engage with communication and entertainment.
Under the title “Scaling your data transformation strategy to create real business impact,” Unilever shared its perspective. Unilever’s R&D team has integrated digital technologies to transform the way it innovates, with the goal of meeting changing consumer needs in the face of challenges such as supply chain disruption and the climate crisis. These technologies, including AI, support stronger collaboration, greater capacity and a more customer-focused approach. Their discover, design and implement model uses digital tools to drive breakthroughs in ingredient discovery, product design and implementation. This digital and AI-driven approach also supports the development of sustainable, non-animal-tested products, while improving operational efficiency and helping create innovations that are ready for the future while protecting the planet.
Expo Zones A and B were buzzing with activity, filled with AI companies presenting their latest breakthroughs. From major technology players such as Google and NVIDIA to emerging companies like Holistic AI and Evometrika, the diversity and innovation on display were remarkable. It was a unique opportunity to see firsthand the advanced AI solutions that will shape the future.
“Together, we shape the future of AI innovation.”
The Summit created an environment where visitors could explore the latest developments and breakthroughs in AI technology. The showcase of AI solutions and products was especially impressive. A recurring theme across many of the discussions and keynotes was that AI is being adopted rapidly across industries, but that it must be used with care, in a safe, transparent and ethical way. Governments around the world are working on regulations that will help harness the power of AI while protecting human interests. The European Union has already taken a major first step with the EU AI Act.
In a session titled “How should Businesses respond to the EU’s First-ever AI Law?”, the focus was on the European Union’s regulatory approach to AI. The EU’s aim is to make the development and use of AI safer and more transparent. In 2021, the European Commission proposed the first regulatory framework for AI, assessing and classifying AI systems based on the level of risk they pose. The European Parliament has called for a clear definition of AI and aims to ensure safety, transparency, traceability, non-discrimination and environmental responsibility in AI systems. The proposed legislation distinguishes between different levels of risk, from unacceptable to limited risk. At the time, the legislation was still under negotiation, with the goal of reaching agreement by the end of 2023.
Let us continue to push the boundaries of AI and work together toward a future in which technology and humanity can exist side by side in harmony.
Over the past two days, we had the privilege of attending the AI Summit in London as part of London Tech Week, and it was truly breathtaking. The event showcased the very best in Artificial Intelligence and brought together industry leaders, AI visionaries and enthusiasts from around the world.
As the sun set over the London skyline, the AI Summit came to a close, but the city continued to unfold its evening charm. We enjoyed the culinary experiences the city had to offer and raised a Meantime beer to a successful conference. London is a city that not only thrives on AI innovation, but also on energy, atmosphere and enjoyment.
